Description

This 1950's vintage sand, gray and black plaid sleeveless dress is missing the label but is attributed to one of the mid century fashion designers accredited with inventing the genre of womens sportswear, Claire McCardell. If you do research on McCardell's designs, you will recognize her signature elements in this great dress. What we especially love about it, is how easy it would fit into anyone's modern wardrobe!

The dress has a fitted waist with buttons on the bodice and a sash tie at the neck. There is a metal zipper with a hook and eye closure in the side seam. The dress has pockets and belt loops (sadly, we are missing the belt). We think this would make such a perfect summer day dress with a straw bag and/or hat.

Estimated size: 4 - please review all measurements in our description for the best fit.

This vintage dress came from the estate of an ultra stylish woman who owned 11 Claire McCardell dresses and we acquired a collection of other mid century designer pieces from her as well. We bought her entire estate of clothing and nothing she owned was less than outstanding. She barely, if ever wore many of her pieces and it was a collection that was worthy of a museum show. We have sold most of it, and still wish we had held on to them sometimes! This woman only had the best of the best of designer clothing and accessories. We are certain that those of you who know a lot about Claire McCardell's designs see that not only does this dress have the type of plaid she used while designing for Townley, it has so many other tells, including the simple bow at the neck, buttons on the bodice, and especially the unique way the plaid is cut for the design.
