Alexander McQueen
Known to friends and family as Lee, Alexander McQueen got his start in fashion designing theatrical costumes. This flair for the dramatic paired perfectly with his education at the prestigious Central Saint Martins and the skills he learned working for Koji Tatsuno and Romeo Gigli to create his own fashion label.
McQueen's groundbreaking, often shocking, collections were a juxtaposition of subversion and historically accurate tradition, remaining uncompromising on the exceptionally fine tailoring for which he is known. His runway shows were more like performance art than fashion shows, highlighting brave collections with themes like art, religion, the natural elements, and even the concept of death.
