This 1960s Emilio Pucci vintage Emilio Pucci dress is in a luxurious cotton velvet featuring a rare bold abstract signature print in shades of blue, purple, pink and black. The stunning signature print is on the lower portion and the bodice is solid black velvet with the print found on the trim outlining the neckline and the empire waistline.

This fun A-line vintage dress was made in Italy exclusively for Saks Fifth Avenue. The dress is fully lined in a pretty powder blue and it closes with a center back zipper and hook and eye.

Condition: Very good - some minor discoloration near hem and a few scattered pin head sized spots are found - minor.

The dramatic prints of Emilio Pucci are instantly recognizable and it is easy to see why he has been called "the prince of prints." As Northwesterners, we have a special place in our hearts for Pucci because his first designs were created for the Reed College ski team, in the Portland, OR area, where he was a student. He really was first noticed in the late 1940's when Harper’s Bazaar featured a ski suit he had designed, photographed by fashion photographer Toni Frissell. The fluorescent colors, and newer stretch fabrics were revolutionary for the time and several American manufacturers approached Pucci about creating a line of ski wear for them, but he opted to set up his own atelier in Capri instead.

Once the Pucci atelier was open, his career catapulted and his pieces were seen on celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy, Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, and Jane Fonda.

“The white and black of the Cathedral marbles, the red of its palaces, the fantastic colours of the Contradas. Here are my inspirations. It may seem strange that I have chosen such a remote theme for my work that has such a modern flavor. But I, today’s Florentine artisan, feel very close to the artisans of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and it is precisely the medieval element of the Palio with its wealth of geometric motifs and color that fascinated me.”
