Description

This is a rare documented Adele Simpson 1940's jacket in a gorgeous black wool. This Fall/Winter 1947/48 flattering double breasted jacket has an exaggerated notched collar, shoulder pads for structure, and a flattering cinched waist. There are 8 front 7/8'' buttons and shoulder pads for structure. We love the way the sleeve cuffs fold over, forming triangles that point towards the back of the jacket, creating points on each sleeve.

We have documented the jacket from Fall/Winter 1947. We aren't sure if the skirt is original to the suit but are including it because it came from the same estate and was worn by the original owner with the jacket. The unlabeled straight skirt is in a black wool crepe and it is defined with 2 pleats in front and 2 pleats in back. There is a zipper in the side seam and a hook and eye closure at the waist line. The skirt has a 9'' knife kick pleat centered at the bottom of the back of the dress.

We acquired this many years ago from our career all time favorite estate of vintage designer clothing. This fashionable woman lived in a rural area but was financially very privileged so she would find pieces she liked in magazines and then buy them straight from the designers or from a larger city shop. Most of her pieces were never worn and it was the finest wardrobe we have ever come across. Her collection spanned from the 1940's through the early 1980's.

This jacket was originally sold at Strauss in Grand Rapids. These 1940's Adele Simpson pieces are particularly rare to find and the jacket of this suit can be worn with many things you already own!
