Description

This is a rare custom made 1980's fall plaid dress from the Utah Tailoring Mills "Designer" label. We love the gorgeous plaid print in brown tones with hot pink accent stripes running throughout. The cut has so much style, with almost dolman sleeves and the upturned sleeve cuffs revealing the same pink ultrasuede as the matching belt. The dress is double breasted, closing with cloth covered buttons. We love this dress and the customer's personal, custom label is sewn on the label.

Founded in Ogden, Utah in 1934, Utah Tailoring Company (run by Norm Bingham and Clyde Buehle) grew to the largest custom tailoring company in the US, with 128 factory employees and 57 sales representatives covering 42 states. The brand was well known on 7th Avenue, and the company was featured in many national publications, including Newsweek, Life, Vogue, and Harper's Bazaar.

The Utah Tailoring Designer label indicates that this dress was made during the time when the company was run by Norm Bingham's son, Boyd Bingham.

From the 1980's through the 1990's, the company, under Norm's direction, designed for an even more exclusive clientele than they had in the past, and the prices went up substantially. At this point, the prominent customers were no longer identified by their names on the labels, only by customer numbers, as they preferred to keep their anonymity.

We estimate this dress to fit a modern day size 8/10. Please measure a dress you have in the similar style by laying it down on a flat surface. Then compare your measurements to those of the dress, for the best fit!

In order to best determine fit, measure yourself or a garment of a similar style that fits you well. Compare those measurements to those on the item description.
