Description

This is a rare 1930s Japanese silk wrap skirt called a Susoyoke. It is the lower half of an undergarment meant to be worn under a woman's kimono. This wrap skirt is a damask silk fabric with a floral print in colorful shades mainly of burgundy, yellow, blue and orange and tone on tone designs.

The skirt wraps in front and has ties at the waist. As it is cut in a flat, straight piece, it gathers at the waist when tied for a paper bag waist effect. These types of garments are usually plain and white, but in the 1920's and 1930's, they created some gorgeous Susoyokes out of Japanese printed silk fabric.

The fit is adjustable, most likely a 6/8.
