Description

This truly stunning vintage jacket was designed by Elena Pelevina in the 1980's. Pelevina was most known for her handcrafted Russian folk dolls with detailed, intricate costumes. This jacket was purchased by a woman, whose estate we were fortunate to acquire, who spent a lot of time in Russia on business in the 1980's.   She acquired a beautiful collection of Russian pieces and this jacket is a unique treasure.

This exceptional one of a kind vintage jacket is constructed entirely of multi colored, multi patterned strips of fabric that have been quilted together on the diagonal, horizontally and vertically. The shoulders are gathered at the seams and It is fitted at the corded waist, with a pleated peplum that accentuates the silhouette beautifully.  Leg of mutton sleeves and a styling reminiscent of Yves Saint Laurent's Russian inspired collections! We especially love the gold metallic ornamental design on the back of the jacket!

There are unique square buttons up the center front for closure that are each in a different pattern.  This could easily be worn with a black skirt, jeans, or a pair of trousers you already have in your wardrobe. This skirt was paired by the original owner with an unlabeled patchwork skirt that can also be worn as a dress. We are selling the two separately but you can view the skirt here.

Made in Russia of 80% cotton and 20% silk with 100% silk lining. We estimate this to fit a modern day US size 8.
