Description
This gorgeous dress is from Dolce & Gabbana's 1993 Spring/Summer Ready to Wear runway collection. This show was a visual celebration of bohemian fashion, directly reminiscent of the 1970's but re-interpreted in a modern way that would fit into today's styles seamlessly. The collection showed large wide brim hats, fringe, tie dye, and of course, colorful patchwork! This beautiful dress has the styling of a 1970's patchwork scarf dress, but created with a 1990's mermaid cut. It is form fitting down to below the hips, where it then becomes a full circle skirt. This incredible vintage dress is sleeveless, with beautiful patches of silk fabric and lace.
The colors in the fabric are predominantly olive green, orange, navy and red, with every other color of the rainbow mixed into the different patterned squares. There are a variety of squares featuring, floral, botanical, geometric and novelty prints mixed in with solids and floral lace. The dress is fully lined down to the flounce, which is sheer, so it is like a mini dress in that way. Closes with a back zipper, made in Italy and originally purchased from Ultimo.
Marked as an Italian size 40, and 100% silk, this fits like a size 2/4. The fabric has no give, and it is very form-fitting. The top fits like a size 4, and the hips are very narrow like a size 2. When interviewed about this collection, the dynamic duo explained that the patchwork designs represent the many places their "wandering woman" has been, the things she has collected, and the many stages of her life. We love that fashion can be a celebration of a woman's experiences! You can take this dress from day to evening with the right shoes and accessories!
Excellent condition other than a very small snag near zipper as shown.
