Size guide

This incredible vintage green strapless evening gown was designed by the incomparable Arnold Scaasi. This stunning dress is strapless with a gorgeous uniquely cut bodice and a trumpet skirt that has alternating rows of velvet and satin panels. The dress is fully lined, with a boned bodice, and zips up the back and we estimate it to be a modern day size 2/4.

We can't think of a more perfect holiday formal evening gown! Please use the measurements as a guide. We recommend that our clients take a dress they currently own that fits them well, lay it on a flat surface and measure the bust, waist and hips by doubling the flat measurement. We measure busts from underarm to underarm. Take into account the lining and any boning found. People often ask us why we don't give exact size numbers, and that is because sizes vary so greatly from manufacturer to manufacturer. So you may think you wear one size in one designer, but in another you where a smaller or larger size. That's why, with vintage, it is always best to use the measurements provided.

BUST: 34"

WAIST: 24"

HIPS: 36"

LENGTH from under arm: 51"

Arnold Scaasi apprenticed at the House of Paquin and then moved to New York City where he worked with the great designer Charles James. Scaasi was known for his impeccably tailored suits and incredibly glamorous evening wear and cocktail dresses trimmed with embellishments like feathers, fur, sequins, and embroidery. He created gowns for countless celebrity clients including first ladies Mamie Eisenhower, Laura Bush, Barbara Bush and Hillary Clinton. He also dressed many famous actresses including Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Diahann Carroll, Catherine Deneuve, Arlene Francis, and Mary Tyler Moore. But, it was the sheer blouse and pants outfit that Barbara Streisand wore to the Academy Awards in 1968 when she accepted the award for best actress that really put him on the international fashion map.
