Description
This is a very rare 1980's original Space Island Light Industries S.I.L.I. colorful cotton outfit that can be a bag, a jacket or a jumpsuit. The piece can be transformed into all 3 pieces as we tried to show in the photos!
The 100% cotton fabric is in fun, bright shades of tangerine, hot pink, and turquoise blue. The unique, deep pockets have ties and the front opening of the jacket has loops with a double tie at the collar. There is a checked pattern on the waist with a thick band and center ties. The back of the jacket has an attached collar that is turquoise blue. The inside of the jacket is tangerine and it can be converted to a jumpsuit by using the sleeves for pants and the rest of the body ties up using the center loop ties. The neck scarf doubles as bandana top for the jumpsuit.
We have had the opportunity to own two of these incredible Light Industries jacket/jumpsuits, one of which was purchased by a prestigious fashion house in Italy.
In the early 1980s an Indonesian based company; JaKpac, under the brand S.I.L.I. (Space Island Light Industries) created these multi colored jackets that could convert to bags and jumpsuits through uniquely designed pockets. The designs were a collaboration of 3 artists; Japanese-Canadian designer Kiyoshi Okuda, painter Annie Anderson, and an artist known as Symon (Ronald Thomas Bierl). They became an overnight success and their pieces were highly sought after by celebrities including Mick Jagger. JaKpac was Bali’s first large exported clothing line. Once other companies started to copy the designs, SILI disbanded but this piece is one of the rare originals!
This incredible jacket is 100% Cotton. Made in Indonesia. We estimate this would best fit a modern day US size M/L.
CONDITION: Very good- a few small spots
In order to best determine fit, measure yourself or a garment of a similar style that fits you well. Compare those measurements to those on the item description.
