Description
This vintage 1970's Jean Louis for I Magnin dress is so chic and sophisticated. The dress is in a rich chocolate brown and we love the fringed scarf! You can wear the dress with or without the scarf, cuff and collar because they are removable.
We acquired this dress from a prominent estate of luxury vintage clothing that had nothing but exceptional high end designer clothing from the 1960's through the early 1980's. Everything in this individual's many closets was beautifully made and very well cared for.
Jean Louis designed for Rita Hayworth and Marlene Dietrich, but he is perhaps most famously remembered for the iconic dress he designed for Marilyn Monroe to wear when she sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. He also designed the famous white dress that Monroe wore in "The Seven Year Itch." He was and Oscar winning costume designer whose designs were part of many movies during the 1950's and 1960's. His famous clients included Lana Turner, Vivien Leigh, The Duchess of Windsor, Nancy Reagan, Katharine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Joan Crawford, Julie Andrews, and his 3rd wife, Loretta Young.
