Description

Yves Saint Laurent was known for his variations on a theme and the safari theme carried over from its inception in 1968 throughout his career. When the model Veruschka appeared in the July/August 1968 edition French Vogue, in the now famous photo by Franco Rubartelli, wearing a YSL safari top, the collection was catapulted into success. The next year, at the opening of Saint Laurent's Rive Gauche store in London, his muses Loulou de la Falaise and Betty Catroux were featured, in another now famous photo, both wearing versions of a safari top.

This late 1970's natural muslin top is a perfect example of YSL's ability to transform masculine pieces into those that fit the female body. The top has a lace up front, laces on the sides, and a round neckline. This is a piece that looks just as current today as it did over 50 years ago!

Our model is wearing this top with 1970s YSL wool trousers, and documented 1989 Leather Belt (sold separately).

Made in France.

Excellent condition - very minor verdigris on a few of the grommets.

Marked as a 36, fits like an extra small, but can fit like a small with the laces more undone

BUST: 34"

WAIST: 32"

SHOULDERS: 15"

LENGTH: 25"
